Havel on Hus

"It is evident that the great contribution of Jan Hus to European history is his principle of personal accountability. He saw truth not just as freely available information, but as a certain attitude, commitment and entitlement. With this, for the first time, concrete and unique human beings and their transcendently derived responsibility became decisive social elements. Exactly the one thing, which should be honored by our modern civilization and what should be its foundation, if we don’t want to mess up!"
