Can't make Firefox work anymore - does it mean that the times of independent internet are over?

On all our computers Firefox became recently unusable. Couldn't install Shockwave anymore and other Adobe plugins anymore. On the other hand McAfee, also in cahoots with Adobe, would want to install...
Is it right that the rich and powerful just do with other people what they like?
There is a new type of satan rising, the most unashamed of all. Instead of following their conscience and leading happy lives, these people blatantly violate all reason, in a spiral of violence and folly, to finally commit the total and accusing suicide. That's their business.
But, in the meantime, how do good people survive this onslaught of foolishness?
